2. Show video on mindset
3. Begin discussion
Self Awareness
1. What does the video say is the key to being successful? What sort of mindset?
2. How are fixed and growth mindsets different? What are some examples of fixed mindset? Growth mindset?
Applied Questions
1. Do people tend to think they are naturally good at some things and not others?
2. According to the video, kids who receive fixed mindset praise lie more than growth mindset kids when reporting
their scores. Why would they do that?
Broader Questions
1. Can fixed mindset thinking stop you from doing well, even at things you are good at?
2. For instance, can getting a bad grade or not performing well make some people give up or get frustrated?
3. Do people sometimes not even try things or push themselves because they are afraid they will be judged by others?
4. Think about someone you think is really good at something(like music, sports, school, etc) have they ever failed on their way to doing well? (examples)
5. If it is true that success in whatever we want to do means being open to failure and learning from our failures, how can we get over the fear of failure and fear of judgment so we can actually improve?
6. If you do poorly on a test, or are struggling in a class how could you approach that situation so that you
could improve? How about teachers, parents, friends-how can we talk to one another to think about failure as a part of the learning process rather than the end of a situation?
